January Theme: A Renewed Spirit

With a new year upon us, we begin to think about what it means to have a “renewed spirit.”  This begins with an awareness of needing a change in character and mindset. However, this awareness is not brought on through our own power. It is a GIFT given to us by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enlightens us through God’s direction and guidance. Let’s be clear, God chooses us, HE is the Compass of Life.

“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 9:12-13 (ESV)

Jesus is telling us that he is here for all sinners… for the humble, the meek, the broken, basically all of mankind.  The difference is that some are aware that they are in need of The Savior. Others attempt to be their own savior, striving to fix themselves. Truth be told,  we can all fall into this trap at times throughout life. But when our hearts are open, with eyes ever-seeing and ears ever-hearing, it is a clear directional path that guides us directly to Our Father.  The journey path becomes clearer, more transparent. The view less foggy.

This awareness, rest assured, gives us a vision of a renewed spirit in Christ. With this comes a drive to be more Christ-like; to help, to model, to guide. Don’t get me wrong, we will still make mistakes and sin. Let’s face it, we live in a fallen world.  There WILL be a heart-difference though concerning empathy, remorse, and a yearning for forgiveness that only comes from The Father. These are the steps to a renewal of spirit and mindset in Christ.

You might be thinking to yourself…
“Why such a drastic change? I’m pretty content right now.”
“Why rock the boat? My life is fairly good.”
“Why would I want to sacrifice my comfortable life for God?”

Here’s a thought to ponder though… WHAT IF God could actually bring a life of greater fulfillment, joy, and peace beyond what you can even imagine? What if you were created with a purpose in mind; a purpose where others can see Christ through you? What if?!

So, you have a choice. God does give us choice in this life. We can choose to live a self-focused existence with our own happiness at the forefront of our minds OR we can dare to imagine a completely different mindset. An awareness and transformation brought on through prayer. God renewing your spirit and leading you to the destiny that HE created for your journey path of life.  This path will not be easy, but Christ promises that the narrow path will always lead us home to Eternity with our Father, God.

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.“
Matthew 7:12-14 (ESV)
