God has a lot to say about the Vision we have for our lives. Even though He knows the choices that we’re going to make, He still gives us free will to choose as we please. He may not be happy with our choices, but they’re still our choices.
Many people believe in the whole idea that we control our own destiny. That if we think positively, everything is going to work out the way we envision. It’s a great idea and I do believe in the power of living life with hope and joy each day, causing us to see the good and to be positive. But it is my belief that consistent, underlying joy that fills our souls each day must come from the Holy Spirit, not us. Let’s be real and honest with each other… we can have the most positive thoughts in the world, but that doesn’t mean that bad things aren’t going to happen to us or the people we love. I mean, we live in a fallen world. Living in a constant state of believing you control your life will only cause great disappointment when you realize that you don’t have control. However, having a clear vision of the life that God wants for us comes through prayer, reading His Word (the Bible), and continually gaining His Wisdom. That way when things do fall short, as they will, our hope is in Him, not us.
“And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.”
Isaiah 42:16 (ESV)
We fall short when what we envision for our lives somehow gets entangled with what God sees. He gives us light though in this darkened world, a Vision. Yet, we cannot provide the light on our own. Yes, we can acquire natural light as a source, but in order to have the light of Christ, God has to enlighten us to His vision of Christ being the Son of Man. Thus illuminating the clear journey path He has put before us.
What is the Vision that God has for your life? Have you asked Him? Have you prayed to Him, asking for Him to guide you on a path for His glory? It cannot be about you. The prayers have to be about HIS path, HIS Vision. Only this will ensure the BEST YOU for Him, not the best you for you! So how do I get clarity on a vision, you ask? God gives us clarity in Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV):
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
God wants us to understand His purpose for our lives. He wants us to see, to have a clear Vision for our today and tomorrow. Sometimes I think to myself, “He has plans for me?! God knows me?” Then I read in Psalm 5:3 (NIV):
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
He hears our voices. The Creator of all things hears us! It’s sometimes hard to believe, but it’s true. So in this New Year of 2021, think of what your vision is for your future. Not the vision your heart desires, but the vision that God is leading you to see. Join me in this prayer for 2021…
“Father, God, please lead me and give me a clear Vision for my today and tomorrow. Give me the assurance that you have plans for me to prosper. Not to prosper in earthly ways that give the devil a foothold, but I ask that you prosper me in ways that glorify You, Father. Help me to see the path clearly. Illuminate the path so that the Vision is translucent with Your truth. Father, I am broken and in need of You to save me from this world. Guide me and lead me to show others You. Use me as a servant so that when others see me or hear me, they take notice. Not because of my own doing, but take notice of the Holy Spirit doing a new work in me. I ask all these things in your Son, Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.”
