Tenacity: The Hits Keep Coming

“What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.”
James 5:11 (MSG)

When I think of tenacity, I immediately think of Job. There are many examples in scripture of those who have suffered and were able to show strength in their faith, but Job’s faithfulness and perseverance truly stand out as an example.

We all have our crosses to bear and struggles we face.  Sometimes though it really feels like the cards are stacked against us and the hits just keep coming. Lately, it’s felt like many around me are really getting hit hard… again and again. I, myself, have felt like I just never catch a break. I can’t catch my breath. Or I’m just tired of the nonstop problems being thrown at me. Tired of being a single mom with my husband traveling so much. Tired of seeing the disappointment in my kids’ faces when Daddy has to leave again. Tired of working so hard and not feeling like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. We all have our things that we’re just tired of doing or dealing with.  Honestly, finding joy in the midst of it all can be hard sometimes. Even Job cried out at one point, thinking, “What’s the point of life?”.  Eventually, Job held on to his faithfulness to God. As he says in Job 42:2 (MSG)

“I’m convinced: You can do anything and everything. Nothing and no one can upset your plans.”

God does not promise us a trouble free or easy life, but we will be rewarded for our tenacity and perseverance. In Job 42:10-11 (MSG) we read,

“God restored his fortune – and then doubled it!”

Joyce Meyer writes, ‘If you do things God’s way, He will give you double for your trouble.’”

The Lord definitely rewarded Job for all of his troubles and tenacity. This is an inspiration to me on how to respond to my personal suffering, challenges, and struggles. I sometimes joke that I am earning my angel wings when I’m going through a tough time! I pray that the Lord will help me find joy and strength through my tribulations and also allow me to inspire others on their journey as well. May you be inspired to have a little more tenacity today as well.
